The 12-inch Change

So, today was time for a change!

We live in SD, where at the moment is in sub zero temps. Therefore, life kind of comes to a stand still. School is canceled and most people are staying home to wait out the freezing temps. However, I did get plowed out of my driveway and ventured to my friend’s hair salon for an impromptu haircut. A 6-inch change!

Although change may scare some people, I tend to embrace it. I like trying a new recipe or trying something new at a restaurant.  I like to give rooms in my house a change in décor or furniture arrangement. When I lived in Tulsa, I would find new ways to drive to work for a change in scenery.

Change is a good thing. It keeps things fresh and creativity flowing. As I mentioned, I cut my hair 6-inches which is a noticeable change. However, there is 12-inch change that you can make that will change your whole life. That change is bringing God and His Word from head knowledge to heart knowledge.

When you go from knowing about God to loving Him with your heart, the most amazing change you will ever experience will impact your whole life. If you are ready for a change, start with these simple things.

1.     Ask Jesus into your life. If you haven’t ever asked Jesus into your heart or have drifted away, just pray this simple prayer.

“Jesus, I acknowledge that I need a change, and that change is having you in my life. I ask you to come into my heart and forgive me of my sins. Take my life and help me get on the right path with you. Amen.”

2.     Read the Bible. This may seem obvious, but it is amazing to me how many people say that they love God, but rarely pick up the Bible to read. Roman 12:2 tells us that we can only be changed in our thinking when we let the Word into our lives. If you don’t have a personal Bible, there are free Bible apps that you can download on your phone.

3.    Listen to God. As you grow in your faith, the Holy Spirit who is on the inside of you will help you and guide you. Listen for that still small voice on the inside for small changes to make in your habits.

4.     Stay connected to God and other believers. Again, this is not earth shattering wisdom here. But real change takes a real effort. An effort that at times you will fail at. That is why you need other Christians to help support you and encourage you in your faith walk. The best place to find those connections is at church. Find a good faith-filled, Bible-teaching church to get connected to.

Please let me know if you made this 12-inch head to heart change. I would love to send you a couple of little books to help you start on your journey free of charge.
