Seek Him

Most Christians have the desire to grow closer to God yet are unsure how to accomplish that. We picture God as a distant being who we don't want to bother, all the while longing to be close to Him and hear His voice. The thing is, He wants to be known by you and talk to you daily. He wants to reveal Himself to you and be your helper and friend.

I often get asked how to hear God's voice or how to read the Bible. That is why I created "Seek Him," a guide to walk you through your quiet time with God.

Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek (aim at and strive after) first of all His kingdom and His righteousness (His way of doing and being right), and then all these things taken together will be given you besides" (AMPC).

My morning appointment with God is the most precious time of my day. When I seek God first, everything else in my day seems to fall into place. I hope that you will develop a special time with the Lord as well. I encourage you to set your alarm a little earlier, grab your favorite hot beverage, your Bible, and find a cozy corner of your home to meet with God.

"Seek Him" is a reading and devotion plan that will take you through the steps of your time with God.

The organization of the devotional guide is as follows:

  1. Praise: Psalms 100:4 says, "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name" (NKJV). Here I provide a section for you to write down what you are thankful for and spend a moment verbalizing your thankfulness to God.

  2. Worship: Listen to a worship song and record what you listened to. Perhaps write down a few words of the song.

  3. Prayer Focus: Each day of the week rotates a prayer focus. These are just suggestions of where to focus your prayer each day. If you have something else on your heart to pray about, then do it!

  4. Prayer Journal: Use this space to write out other prayers that you have or feel the Lord is speaking to your heart during your prayer time. Remember that prayer is a 2-way conversation. The Holy Spirit wants to talk to you as well. Your morning time with Him is the best place to practice listening to His voice.

  5. Daily Reading Plan: You can pick your own reading plan or follow ours. Sign up here to receive the weekly reading plans. Sundays purposefully do not have a reading plan. However, use this page to take notes on your pastor's Sunday morning message.

  6. Verse: After reading the chapter, pick out one verse that seemed to get your attention and rewrite it in the space given.

  7. Chapter Reflection: Write what you feel the Holy Spirit is speaking to you through this verse or chapter.

Remember that this is just a guide. Don't feel like you have to tackle the whole devotion in one sitting or finish all of the sections every day. If it works better for you to spend your morning time just in prayer and your evening time reading the Word, then do that. Spending time with God should never feel like a chore. Remember that this is just a guide, so feel free to make it yours and fit your schedule.

I have included a link for the download of one week. Feel free to make copies as needed!
