Beyond Normal Pt 2: Your Advantage

Did you know that you have an advantage? Well, if you have asked Jesus to forgive your sins and come into your life, you now have the greatest advantage ever! You have been given the gift of the Holy Spirit. He lives in you and is there to help you, guide you, and bring you into all truth.

Isn’t that what people are searching for? They might not admit it, but each of us has a God-sized hole in our hearts that can’t be filled with anything but Him.

It is interesting to note that the Holy Spirit is mentioned 88 times in the Old Testament and 264 times in the New Testament. He is talked about 60 times in the gospels, 57 times in Acts, and 132 times in the Epistles.

That means the Holy Spirit is vital to be able to live out our Christian walk. Too many people try to be a Christian on their own by just trying to “be a good person.” I don’t know about you, but my kindness and love wear off way too quickly when I try to do things on my own. I need the help of the Holy Spirit every day – He is the means by which we connect to God.

Your Advantage

Jesus says in John 16:13-14, “However, when He, the Spirit of truth, has come, He will guide you into all truth; for He will not speak on His own authority, but whatever He hears He will speak; and He will tell you things to come. He will glorify Me, for He will take of what is Mine and declare it to you.”

1. He Will Guide You Into Truth

He is the Spirit of TRUTH. It’s trendy now to talk about my truth as if we all can live these little make-believe lives that are anything but the truth. My truth is, I’m nothing without THE truth – the Spirit of truth in my life. He is my foundation – the rock on which I base everything else. Not only that, but He will guide us to make the right choices and direct our steps each day so that we take the right path.

2. He reveals the voice of the Father

The scripture says that the Holy Spirit’s job is to reveal the thoughts of the Father. Jesus never said or did anything that God didn’t tell Him. He knew to stick with God’s Word above what He would see. Jesus is our example of how to do that. We can hear the voice of the Father through the Holy Spirit. We have a direct line any time, any place. We just have to learn to listen to His voice.

3. He brings things into remembrance

John 14:25 says, “He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” Have you ever wondered how you could ever remember everything there is to remember about the Bible and being a Christian? The answer is, you can’t! That is the job of the Holy Spirit. He helps to bring back into remembrance things we have learned. That’s the key, though – what you have learned. The Holy Spirit can only help you remember what you have already learned. That means we need to spend time reading the Bible daily, listening to sermons or podcasts, and reading blogs like this one.

4. He will pray for you

Have you ever been in a position where you didn’t know what to pray for? Maybe someone asked you to pray for someone you didn’t know all the details about. Or perhaps you have been in a situation where your own words fail to express what is in your heart.

Romans 8:26 says, “Likewise the Spirit also help in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with grownings which cannot be uttered.”

The Holy Spirit steps in and will intercede through praying in the Spirit. The devil will tell you that’s weird, and not for today, or even that it’s of him. But all of that is a lie. He knows that praying in the spirit is one of the most powerful tools the Holy Spirit gives us.

The bottom line is that the Holy Spirit is your advantage and wants to work on your behalf to help you live the life you were meant to live. He will lead and guide us into victory and be with us through tough times.

As Jesus said in John 16:7, “Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send Him to you.”

You have the Helper – your advantage living on the inside of you. Take advantage of your advantage today!
