TRUE FREEDOM

"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." 1 John 1:7

Have you ever felt like you don't measure up? Maybe you have a reoccurring sin in your life that you feel guilty about or feel condemned from a past sin that keeps haunting you with the consequences of that sin. Either way, you don't have to feel condemned any longer.

Our verse from 1 John says that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses us from ALL sins, not just a few sins. Jesus not only took our sin and cleansed us, but 2 Corinthians 5:21 says He was MADE sin. Nothing you have done nor will do in the future is exempt from Jesus' cleansing blood.

Some people bring up the unpardonable sin and worry that they have passed the point of no return. If you have that fear, let me assure you that you haven't committed the unpardonable sin if you are worried that you have! It's the devil's lie to keep you feeling condemned.

Why would the devil want us to stay feeling defeated? Because he knows the truth about what Jesus' blood did. He knows that if believers realize, understand, and start living in the freedom and authority they have been given, he is a defeated foe.

Our discussion last week centered on how to step into the presence of God. Like 1 John 1:7 says, "IF we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another." The little word at the beginning of that sentence is the crux to fellowshipping with Jesus – IF. That means you have a choice. Walking in the light depends on if you accept and believe in Jesus and the gift of His blood. The devil is doing his best to make you doubt your faith, to keep you in the dark.

Therefore, we need to get some things clear on what the power of the blood does in our lives.

 Washes Us From Sin

Okay, this may seem obvious, but I want you to really get the revelation in your heart that you are washed in the blood when you make Jesus the Lord of your life. Don't let the devil trick you into believing it didn't work for you. Jesus' blood is the best stain remover there ever has been and ever will be.

Now, this doesn't give you the license to continue sinning. Once you have been shown that something is a sin, do your best to remove it from your life. This is easier said than done because although your spirit was recreated and made clean, your soul (mind, will, and emotions) and your body (with its selfish desires) were not. It's our job to be a living sacrifice and turn from our past wicked ways.

 Free From the Curse

Galatians 3:13-14 says, "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith."

When Adam and Eve sinned, the curse was introduced into the earth as Satan now had dominion. Although we still live in this cursed world (which is why bad things still happen to us), we have been redeemed and freed from the curse. What does that mean for you? You don't have to put up with anything the devil dishes out!

Free From Satan's Dominion

Again, the devil doesn't want you to know your actual condition because it means you would know that you are free from his dominion. The verse that we started this series with is Revelation 12:11 which says, "And they overcame him (the devil) by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony." It's the blood of Jesus and confessing that blood over our lives that allows us to be free from Satan's dominion.

If you feel attacked by the devil – like you can't catch a break, do the following:

  1. Examine your life and ask God for forgiveness where you have failed.

  2. Find scripture that deals with your situation.

  3. Speak and declare the Word with the authority you have been given. Draw a line in the sand. James 4:7 says, "Resist the devil and he WILL flee from you." He has no option but to flee when you resist him with the Word of God. Isn't that how Jesus defeated the devil when he came to tempt Him? Jesus didn't argue with Satan or try to barter with him. No, He responded, "it is written."
