The Key to a Successful Home
Jan 22, 2024Do you ever wish you had a manual for a healthy marriage or, better yet, one for each of your children? Yes, wonderful books are out there, and we should educate ourselves from those who have gone before us. But often, the books fail because your situation seems to be a little different from those you read about.
Well, we may not have a manual written just for us, but we actually have something even better. As Christians, we’ve been given the Holy Spirit on the inside of us, who is our helper and guide. Wisdom comes from God, given to us through the Holy Spirit, for every unique situation we face.
Where To Start
The book of Proverbs is full of wisdom for our lives. Although it might not tell you which job you should take or how to deal with your toddler’s tantrum, it will clarify those solutions. God cares about all the things we worry about – the things that take our time and energy. Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” When we seek God – seek wisdom, He will reveal the answers we need.
Proverbs 1:7 in the Amplified version says, “The reverent and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning and the principal and choice part of knowledge [its starting point and its essence]; but fools despise skillful and godly Wisdom, instruction, and discipline.”
In other words, foolish people will say there is nothing in the Bible to help their situation. But when you seek God – seek wisdom, He will bring things across your path that will give you the exact answer you’re looking for.
Love and Trust
Proverbs 3:1-2 says, “My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life and peace they will add to you.” How many of us can use some peace in our families and homes? If that is the result we want, we must first keep His commands – love God and love others. In other words, we must remain or abide in love – in Him.
Proverbs 3:5-6 in the Amplified version says, “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know, recognize, and acknowledge Him, and He will direct and make straight and plain your paths.”
That’s what we’re after ¬– a straight path to follow, a step-by-step guide designed just for us. The problem is most people don’t see the value of verse 5, “Lean on, trust in, and be confident in the Lord with all your heart and mind.” That sounds a lot like the commandment we’ve been given found in Matthew 22:37, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.”
Hearing From God
Many times, people complain that they can’t hear God’s voice to them, but that is simply not true. All you have to do is open your Bible, and He will speak right to you! It’s astounding the revelation you will receive for your particular situation as you read the Word.
If you’re striving to hear from God, keep a journal when you read the Bible and write down those things you feel the Lord sharing with you. If you don’t know how to do that, you can download our free journal and devotional guide to walk you through how to hear from God as you read the Bible.
The bottom line is that God has the wisdom you need for whatever you face. He’s the top relationship expert and parenting guru – especially because He made those people in your life, too! His wisdom is so simple and profound that you will wonder why you didn’t see it before.
Begin praying for wisdom. And as Ephesians 1 teaches us, pray that the “eyes of your understanding would be enlightened.” We need God’s revelation, guidance, and help every day. Let me know below how seeking God and His wisdom has helped in your home.
