Preverted Faith

"For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." 2 Timothy 1:7

There is a spirit of fear, so we could say that fear is a spirit or there is an evil spirit behind fear. We think of fear as being an emotion, and it does show up in our emotions, but the root of fear is spiritual.

I worked in the forest as a logger for years, and there were times, especially at night, when I didn't have what you would call a sound mind when fear was in charge. I would start to imagine all kinds of things, and every shadow was something sinister out to get me. The more I would entertain those thoughts, the worse it would get. And that is the point. Fear is perverted faith. It is believing that the evil you perceive is actually going to happen. Before you know it, your mind is messed up, and sound, clear thoughts are a thing of the past.

How do you conquer that? By setting your mind on things above. Personally, I start quoting scripture. That's not all I do, but that is the starting point. More later.
