A Reason To Be Happy
A merry heart does good like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones. Proverbs 17:22
I read something the other day, but I can't remember it all. That is an absurd statement that is lost on a lot of people. I happen to be one of those people that looks for the light side of every moment. One statistic I saw said small children laugh over 300 times a day. Adults, on the other hand, laugh less than 50 times a day. Adulting must be serious business. I hope I don't get there.
On one of my visits to the Mayo Clinic, I sat next to a lady that had obviously lost her hair to chemo. She was wearing a hat that said "Bad Hair Day". There is nothing humorous about going through a major illness, so sometimes you have to go find it. I heard about one guy that, with the help of a friend, got an empty IV bag, filled it with water, and taped the tube to his arm. Not much to laugh at there until you add a goldfish to the bag. He took great delight in watching his nurses "discover" the goldfish and seeing their reactions. Things like that are what legends are made of!
When I was going through chemo, I purposed to not take it too seriously. I enjoyed joking with the nurses or doing what I could to take the tension out of the air. Find a reason to laugh today. Your health and well-being may depend on it.
