Bless Our Food

So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water. And I will take sickness away from the midst of you. Exodus 23:25

As we have studied the blessing of God this month, we have seen time and again how the blessing follows obedience to God. I wonder why it is so hard for us to believe that God has nothing but goodness stored up for us when we believe and follow Him. Fear of the unknown keeps us frozen right where we are because the devil doesn’t want us to be blessed. He knows that if we have faith in God, we will taste the blessing, and every aspect of our lives will be changed.

This verse addresses the blessing of our food and water. To this day, most Christians pray a blessing over their meal before eating. And I think it’s safe to say that most Christians are just reciting a prayer that doesn’t mean much to them. We pray something like, “Dear Lord, thank you for this day, bless this food to our bodies. Amen.” I’m guilty of praying these quick faithless words where I’m focused on my hungry stomach half the time than on praying in faith.

However, anytime we pray, it should be filled with faith. Do you believe that God blesses your food and drink? Do you believe that He will take sickness away from you? If you answered yes, do you believe Him enough to serve Him? Because this verse says that the blessing follows serving, not just praying.

As we pray over our meal at the end of our day, we should pray out of a heart of service to Him. Thank God for the opportunities you had to serve those around you and make a difference for the kingdom of God. Thank God for the blessing of having food to eat and clean water to drink. And thank Him for taking sickness away from the midst of you.

Dear Lord, thank you for the blessing of healthy food and water to care for our bodies. Thank you for the opportunities to serve you every day. Amen.
