Showers of Blessing

I will make them and the places all around My hill a blessing; I will cause showers to come down in their season; there shall be showers of blessing. Ezekiel 34:26

I love how the whole Bible points to Jesus, and this passage of scripture is no exception. If we back up to verse 25, it reads, "I will make a covenant of peace with them…" that covenant of peace came through Jesus, the Prince of Peace.

The whole chapter of Ezekiel 34 talks about the people are like sheep in need of a shepherd. By the way, if you have ever been around sheep, that is not a compliment. Sheep are very dumb animals. They really don't think for themselves but rather are made to follow.

Likewise, we (the human race) are made to follow – and not just anyone, we were made to follow God. Of course, when sin entered the world through Adam and Eve, people wandered like the lost sheep they were. But God, in His great mercy, prepared a way to bring the "sheep" back to Himself – through Jesus the Good Shepherd.

Jesus says in John 10:7-9, "Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly."

Through Jesus, we have an abundant life which are showers of blessing in your life. However, both Ezekiel 34 and John 10, warn us about the thief that comes to kill, steal, and destroy. John 10:10 is one of my "soapbox" verses if you will. Often, God gets credit for the good but is blamed for the bad things in our lives. People will twist it to sound spiritual like, "God works in mysterious ways," or "this must be God's will for my life." They back up their claims with Romans 8:28, which says, "and we know that all things work together for good to those who love God."

Yes, God can make all things work together for good, but it does not mean that He caused the bad or that it was His will for the bad to happen. God is a good God. The devil is bad. Therefore, we can use John 10:10 as a guide to indicate if something is God's will or not. If something in your life falls under the category of stealing, killing or destroying, it either happened because of the devil or because we live in a fallen world, a cursed world. Sickness is a result of the curse – God didn't create it. Therefore He will never use it to teach us something. However, He sent Jesus – the Good Shepherd, the healer to us. He is the answer to all of our problems.

Showers of blessings are yours through life in Jesus. Don't turn the Good shepherd away to follow and believe the thief's voice.

Dear Lord, help me follow Jesus and know His voice in my life. Through Jesus, I know I have the victory and showers of blessing in my life. Amen.
