You Are Rich

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it. Proverbs 10:22

There are many ways to get rich. Most of the methods require hard work to achieve what you want. There is nothing wrong with working hard. In fact, the Bible talks about not being slothful but putting your hand to work. As with anything, there is a delicate balance. We start getting off balance when relying solely on our own abilities and work ethic and leave God out of the picture.

We learned last month about God’s provision and how the giving of tithe opens the opportunity for God to bless us in ways that maybe wouldn’t have been possible. Therefore, we have our part of doing what God has told us to do and gifted us to do, but He is the one who makes us rich, not our finances.

The amplified version of this verse says, “The blessing of the Lord brings [true] riches, and He adds no sorrow to it [for it comes as a blessing from God].” The blessing isn’t something we have to work for or earn. We don’t get it if we are good enough.

The blessing is a gift from God received as part of our covenant relationship with Jesus. As our verse says, it makes us rich in the truest sense. Think about the things that make you rich - obviously, it’s more than money that gives us riches. It’s having close relationships with family and friends or doing meaningful work. It’s about serving others and being a part of something bigger than yourself.

Matthew 6:19-20 says, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

God is interested in your heart. The condition of your heart determines how rich you truly are. Is your life overflowing with the fruit of the spirit? Do you have love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness, and self-control abounding in your life? I think it’s safe to say we could all use more fruit in our lives, and the only way to get it is to spend more time with Him. Read the Bible and spend time in prayer. Go to church and help serve in any way you can. When you do, you will find the blessing of the Lord all around you, and you will be truly rich.

Dear Lord, I thank you for the blessing in my life that makes me rich from the inside out. Amen.
