Deceptive Words

He who would love life and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips from speaking deceit. 1 Peter 3:12

I don't know about you, but I want to see good days. According to this verse, good days come by not speaking evil or manipulating the truth. I listen to what people say. I find it fascinating how many otherwise good people deceive with their words. They don't mean to but they do.

I was talking to a friend one day and he was telling me about how bad his day was on the previous day. He made it sound like his whole day was one disaster after another. When I pressed him about what happened, he had a flat tire. That's it, a flat tire. Sorry, but a flat tire doesn't support a bad day scenario.

That good Christian man practiced deceit and he wasn't even aware of it. He led me to believe he had the worst day ever when he had a flat tire. This man didn't have a good day because he didn't see a good day. He practiced deceit on himself. If you choose to see a good day, you'll have a good day. If you choose to focus on the bad, you'll have a bad day. The choice is yours.
