My Serving Days

"He who loves silver will not be satisfied with silver; nor he who loves abundance , with increase." Ecclesiastes 5:10

A term that used to be popular, but you don't hear much anymore, is "rat race". It is a phrase used to describe people going everywhere but not making much sense, like rats. One of the things I like to do is go to a high spot overlooking a city and watch all the traffic. I've watched similar vehicles going in opposite directions. What's up with that? You see people spending their whole lives carving out their empires, and for what?

Satisfaction doesn't come from things. No matter how much you have, it's never enough. A satisfying life is one spent caring for others. Being on the back half of life, my empire-building days are done, but my serving days have just begun. No matter how much stuff you accumulate, when you leave this world, it stays here. The one thing we can take into eternity is other people.
