Fully Pleasing God

"That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him..." Colossians 1:10a

I don't know why "Fully pleasing God" causes so much trouble. I think we have the idea that God is somehow hard to please, and each of us is just one step away from displeasing Him at any moment. If that is you, take that thought out and bury it. God is not displeased with you. God doesn't care for everything you and I do, but that doesn't mean we are constantly on His bad side. If you have trouble with this truth, you are in very good company.

When Jesus was baptized and came out of the water, God spoke from heaven and said, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." So what did Jesus do to please God? Nothing noteworthy. We know He studied the word and worked as a carpenter, and God was pleased with Him.

When you are getting ready for your day, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself that God is pleased with you. You may not believe it at first but keep doing it. The truth of those words will get down on the inside of you, and you will start to live them out.
