This Isn’t a 24/7 Deal
Jesus asked His disciples the question, "Who do men say that I am?" He got several answers, but Peter said, "You are the Christ, the Son of God." Jesus was excited about this answer and told Peter that flesh and blood didn't reveal this to him, but His Spirit did. This is the same Peter who Jesus later told, "Get behind Me, satan!" And later denied Jesus three different times.
Don't be confused by this verse. Being led by the Holy Spirit isn't a 24/7 deal. More often than not, I'll make a statement and wonder where it came from because I wasn't thinking about it at all.
Writing these texts is a great example of this. I look at a verse and know what I'm going to say. Other times, it goes another direction, and I'm just along for the ride. I'll read what I just wrote and think, "where did that come from?" Both ways are being led.
I am very guarded about anyone who says they don't do anything unless the Holy Spirit tells them to. That is incorrect, at the least. There are things I do in my day that I don't pray about first; I just do them because they need to be done. I can't say I've ever asked for advice on taking the garbage out; I just do it!
