Give It To God

Although this month is all about mothers, it is also mental health awareness month. A coincidence? Maybe… Why is it that so many people, moms in this case, struggle with mental health issues? Personally, I know I have felt inadequate, judged, and overwhelmed with trying to have it all together – whatever “it” is.
Many moms believe that worry is part of the mom membership plan. It’s like if you are not worrying about your children, then somehow you are not doing you due diligence. But why? What does worrying accomplish? You know the answer – absolutely nothing!
However, we buy into the narrative that worrying somehow means “caring about” or loving your loved ones. This idea suggests that worrying for your child is going to actually help him or her in some way.
The truth is, you are not accomplishing one thing by worrying, except adding to or stirring up anxiety. So, what should you do instead? Get my book on anxiety here! Seriously, I do believe it will really help you. However, I will give you the VERY condensed version.
Give it to God! That directive seems like a no-brainer, but it really is one of the hardest things to do. That is why I wrote a book about how to give your worry and anxiety over to God. Unfortunately, giving your worries to God is not a one-time thing. Instead, it is a continual life-style of relying on God more than yourself.
Giving your worry to God takes practice. It takes practice to stop the hamster wheel of what-ifs from circling in your mind. I always go to 1 Peter 5:6-9 to help me with this. It says,
“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you. Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.”
It boils down to fully trusting God for your children and refusing to let fear (which is what worry is) control you. Break the chains of worry from your momma’s heart. I promise it doesn’t mean that you don’t love your children any less. Leave your doubt, worry and fear in your Father’s hands. Then stand firm in your faith and trust in God.
