Spring-Cleaning For Your Body and Soul

Every year at this time I get excited for June. Maybe it’s because I am also a teacher and I get to have some time off after a hectic spring. I don’t get to take the whole month off since I am still a pastor and private music teacher too; but I try to relax a bit, maybe read a book just for fun, and get excited about planning my year ahead by setting new goals for myself.
Maybe you do a spring cleaning in your home this time of year. I always have good intentions of doing a thorough spring-cleaning job but then get maybe one room done before… I’m done! Anyone else?? I do like getting things cleaned up, organized, and decluttered though – it just feels so good! At any rate, this time of year represents a new beginning for me – even more than January 1st. It’s a time of out with the old and in with the new! A time to declutter and clean not only my house, but my body, my mind and even my time.
June is also my reset month. It’s when I take inventory on myself such as my mental and physical well-being. To reset, I do a detox month. I guess you could say that I do a self-spring cleaning.
So, I thought this June I would take you on my detox journey with me. I am going to be addressing various things I do and tools that I use to detox my mind and body. We will be addressing things that maybe we should add or subtract to or from our lives.
The most important thing to do before approaching a time of self-reflection and detoxing is to:
Ask God for wisdom. Ask him to speak to you about what you need to detox or add to your life. The point is to get His insight on what changes need to occur.
Have proper motivation or your reason why. If your intentions are prideful such as, “I want to lose weight to look good for my class reunion.” Chances are you won’t get as much out of the detox as you could. Rather, focus on your inside. What foods should you add or eliminate to help you feel better? What things should you add or eliminate to help alleviate stress or anxiety? Sometimes we can’t eliminate things totally, but it helps to be aware.
Keep it simple. I will be giving you a challenge each week if you choose to go on this journey with me. Maybe you want to focus on just one thing or maybe you are an all or nothing kind of person. Either way, don’t view “self-cleaning” as a chore but rather a gift to yourself.
So, your challenge for this week is to:
Journal what you feel God speaking to your heart. Ask Him to help you on your health journey.
Go look up the following verses and write them out. Then speak them over yourself for this next month.
Gal. 5:16 Phil. 4:13 Eph. 2:10 Eph. 3:16 Eph. 4:22-24 Col. 3:2
If you are going to go on this body and soul “spring-cleaning” with me, drop me a note or comment so that I can pray for you.
