An Act of Worship

Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be good in My house. And try me now in this, says the Lord of hosts, "If I will not open the windows of heaven and pour out such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10

All my life growing up, I was taught to tithe. I remember counting out dimes from my allowance to give as tithe. I learned it was what I did as a Christian. Tithing was treated as a bill that was owed. It was a monetary transaction with no promises attached to it. Consequently, the church was always trying to raise money through special offerings.

Some years ago, I learned the truth of tithing, that it was God's way of getting His blessing to His people while funding the church. It is no longer a "requirement" but an act of worship. This verse is the only place I have found where we are given permission to put God to the test. I have come to the realization that God isn't interested in taking my money, but He is wanting to get His blessing to me, and this is the way He has chosen to do that.
