I will lift up my eyes to the hills – from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Psalm 121:1-3
Where do you look for help? Do you call a parent, a friend, or someone close to you? It’s okay to seek help from people, but how much better is it to look to God for help. God’s job is to look after you and to help you. This verse says that He doesn’t sleep on the job – He’s always there to protect and help you.
Many times we seek help from whomever we are the most comfortable with. When each of my kids left home for college, I would get plenty of calls for help about this or that. I finally told one of my kids that they could google some of this stuff. Why did they call me? They trusted me. They knew that mom took care of them for years, so when they had a question about something, their first thought was to ask mom.
However, the longer they are away from home, the fewer calls my husband, and I get about how to do the everyday tasks. This is a natural progression that is healthy and good. However, we don’t want that to happen in our relationship with God.
We should never “move out of God’s house.” The further you get from Him, the less you will look to Him for help. It’s so important to stay close to God and to keep communication with Him at all times so can say with David, “My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Lord, I position myself close to you and look to you for my help today. Amen.
