New Every Morning
Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:22-23
God provides His fresh mercies towards us every morning. What good news to know and realize that we will never reach the end of God's compassion and mercy. This verse says that His compassions fail not. You could say, His love for us never fails (1 Cor. 13:8). Love is the driving force behind everything God says and does because He IS LOVE. He doesn't just act in love, but He Is love. He can't work any other way.
God is patient and kind. He doesn't demand His own way or keeps an account of all of the bad things we have done. He upholds truth and goodness.
We can see our Father's heart as we look at Jesus. Jesus even said in John 14:7, "If you had known Me (had learned to recognize Me), you would also have known My Father." One of the characteristics of Jesus was his compassion. Scripture says time and time again, He was moved with compassion. His ministry centered around His love and compassion for people – even in their sin. He never considered someone's past before helping them or healing them. His disciples certainly weren't perfect before He picked them.
God looks beyond the choices we make to our hearts. Why else would He have called David, "A man after my own heart." Really? David, the murdering adulterer? Now, David recognized when he messed up and was repentant for his sins – which is an example for us all.
God's mercies are not new every morning because of anything we have done or will do for Him. His mercy is an outpouring of His ongoing compassion for us. In fact, that's what mercy is. It means that we actually deserve punishment for our actions, but God provides mercy instead.
Notice that the scripture says, "every morning." Doing something every day is the definition of a habit. He has a habit of showing up for you EVERY SINGLE DAY. He is there at your lowest of lows and also for your mountain top experiences. So stand tall knowing that you have brand new mercies flowing to you today. Praise God!
Dear Lord, thank you for Your mercies that are new every morning. Your compassion toward me is limitless. May my life today reflect your goodness toward me. Amen.
