Provision of The Word

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bring forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper. Psalm 1:2-3

As we have been talking about the provision of God this month, we would be amiss if we didn’t focus on the Word of God. I love the Bible more than anything in my life. It is literally my life source. I was blessed to be raised in a Christian home where the Word of God had a place of dominance. I even teethed on a little pink New Testament given to me as a baby.

As a child, we went to church every Sunday morning and evening and Wednesday evenings. My church family was an extension of my own family, but that is not where I learned to love the Word of God. My dad’s Bible could always be found – usually on the kitchen table where he had done his morning devotions. I learned through what I observed that it was important to read my Bible every day.

Moms and Dads, your habits are what your children will base their lives on. You can’t send them to church (even weekly) and expect it to have the same impact that you have on them. Are you delighting in the Word every day? Is there evidence of your devotional time for your children to observe? Do you have godly conversations around the dinner table or on car rides? Do the shows you watch on TV reflect your Christian beliefs?

These are all excellent questions for us to consider because, as our scripture for today states, when you give the Word first place in your life, you will be like a healthy, thriving tree. This is the reason my book is titled, Planted. The Bible has all the answers we need for any situation. Psalm 121:2 says, “Our help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”

I don’t understand why anyone wouldn’t spend time planting themselves In Him. We are to abide in Jesus. Jesus said in John 15:5, “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” Yet, how many of us go about our days without first plugging into Him? If we take Jesus’ words to heart, nothing we do on our own is good for anything. Purpose to make your time with God a priority every day, and you will find that you will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water.

Dear Lord, thank you for your Word in my life. I purpose to plant myself in it and abide in it every day. Amen.
