The Journey of Life

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

The first year my husband and I were married (back in 1995), our college choir went on tour in Great Britain. It was the first time I had traveled to Europe, and it was fascinating! One of the benefits of going with a group was that our agenda was planned for us. We didn’t have to worry about scheduling tours to castles, stone henge, or Shakespeare’s birthplace. Our days were laid out for us. All that we had to do was follow our daily schedule. I remember the bus we toured in was a double-decker and the best seat was on top in the front. We had terrific views of the landscape around us and never had to worry about getting from place to place.

God’s plans for you are very similar. He has designed an incredible trip called YOUR LIFE! He has provided your agenda, equipped you with the know-how, and mapped out the best course for you to take. The provision of God covers everything you need for your journey.

At times it may seem that God got it wrong. I’m sure Joseph questioned how being sold into slavery and then put in prison had to do with the plan that God had already told him about. Yet, the scripture never says that Joseph doubted the path he was on. He was faithful to do what was in front of him to do. As a slave, he worked hard and soon found favor as he was moved up the ranks to work in Potiphar’s house.

Next, he kept his integrity and didn’t bend to the pressure of Potiphar’s wife, which ended him in prison. Again, he found favor and was soon was the man in charge of the prison. Finally, through a series of events, he ends up in the palace not as an enslaved person but as one in authority only under Pharaoh.

Sometimes the pieces of our lives don’t look like God’s provision. It might seem like he has forgotten about you. However, I want to encourage you to stay faithful to God, keep your integrity, and enjoy the journey.

Dear Lord, help me to trust the journey I’m on. Thank you for providing everything I need along the way. Amen.
