Your Benefit Package Awaits

Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagles. Psalm 103:2-5

This verse is one of my favorites because it outlines God’s benefit package, or as we have been talking about, His provision for us.

First of all, it says forget not all His benefits. We are probably all guilty of failing or not understanding what belongs to us through Jesus. What if you had a job with great benefits but never took advantage of them? Your employer might think you were a little strange for not taking what belongs to you. But that is precisely what we do with our benefits in Christ.

When Jesus died on the cross for us, He did more than give us access to Heaven. Don’t get me wrong, that in itself is enough, but this verse tells us that we also have forgiveness, healing, redemption, mercy, and renewal for our souls. Salvation doesn’t leave anything out that we need to live abundant lives.

However, to have these benefits manifest in your life takes shifting your focus from your problems to your answer. When Jesus told Peter to come to Him on the water, Peter walked on the water until he took His eyes off of Jesus and started looking at the waves around him.

Are you focused on the waves of your life or Jesus? We’re not called to walk on water, but we are called to receive all that Jesus did on the cross. Usually, when we lack one of these benefits, our attention gets placed on other things rather than our provider.

So, how do we tap into our spiritual benefits? First, we need to learn about them by reading our Bible and listening to excellent Bible teaching. When you hear the Word, your faith grows. Next, receive in faith. If someone gives you a gift, your response should be, “thank you.” Thank Jesus for the gift of salvation and ask Him to reveal more of what that means for you.

Dear Lord, thank you for the benefits provided to me through Jesus. Please help me to learn and grow in them today. Amen.
