Ask For Wisdom
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5
One of the most intriguing people in the Bible is King Solomon. He was probably the richest man to have ever lived and will ever live. It wasn’t the absurd amount of things he owned or the incredibly ridiculous number of wives he had that was so interesting.
King Solomon pleased God because he built the temple. In return, God wanted to give him something back. Imagine God telling you to ask for whatever you wanted, and He would give it to you almost like a genie in a lamp. Instead of asking for something elaborate, King Solomon recognized what he lacked and asked God for wisdom.
Asking for wisdom is almost like asking a genie for a million more wishes! Wisdom is the principle thing that we all need. Do you know what is so cool about this? God never changes. He loved to give wisdom then and loves to give wisdom now to anyone who will ask.
I remember hearing about this story in the Bible as a teenager, so I began asking God for wisdom. Don’t test me on book knowledge, but I know that God has answered my prayers for wisdom throughout my life, from who to marry to raising my children. I don’t think this prayer is a one-and-done type of prayer. We need to continually ask Him for wisdom for whatever situation we face. I believe that every time I have asked God for wisdom, He has done as this verse says and liberally supplied me with what I needed.
He wants to do the same thing for you. What do you need wisdom for right now? There isn’t a subject that is off-topic for God. He has the answer to whatever you are seeking today.
Dear Lord, I ask you for wisdom today. Help me know what to say and do as I go about my day. Amen.
