Come As You Are

Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Galatians 3:13-14

As we celebrated the Easter season, I hope you took time to reflect on what Jesus did for us on the cross. He made a way for us who are gentiles (not Jewish) to receive the blessings that once just belonged to the Jewish people through Abraham. We got engrafted into His bloodline when Jesus took our place and redeemed us from the curse of the law.

Jesus died for all people, but sadly not all people receive what He did for them. The last part of Galatians 3:14 says, “that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.” We don’t get into heaven by just being a good person. We go to heaven when we do as Romans 10:9-10 says, “that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth, confession is made unto salvation.” It didn’t say anything about being a good person. Now, we are called to live out our faith – which means being a good person, but that is a result of what Jesus did in our lives not to try to earn our salvation. Jesus is the one who earned our salvation, we receive it by faith.

When you are born into your family, you received your parent’s DNA. You didn’t get to decide what your nose or ears would look like or what mannerisms you would inherit. Likewise, when you are born into the family of God, you are given His DNA. We are made righteous and given the Blessing of Jesus in our lives. However, we have to receive the blessings Jesus provides by faith. If you don’t want to change, you don’t have to. God won’t make you come and sit at His table and enjoy all that He has provided.

If you are not sure you are heading to heaven, simply pray this prayer:

Dear Lord, I come to You in the Name of Jesus. Your Word says, “Whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved” (Acts 2:22). I am calling on You. I pray and ask Jesus to come into my heart and be Lord of my life according to Romans 10:9-10. I do that now. I confess that Jesus is Lord, and I believe in my heart that God raised Him from the dead. I repent of sin. I renounce it. I renounce the devil and everything he stands for. Jesus is my Lord. Amen!

If you prayed that for the first time, email us at hello@schafferministries.com and let us know. We would love to send you some resources to help get started with your faith journey.
