The Blessing of The Blood

The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? I Corinthians 10:16

Communion is a special time of remembering what Jesus did for us. This verse calls the blood of Jesus the cup of blessing. If you have followed this month's devotions, we have discussed that there isn't a blessing without the blood of Jesus. Jesus is the blessing, and His blood made that blessing available to us.

The blessing of God is everything that Jesus represents. So how do we activate the blessing in our lives? We are to follow His commandment of love. Jesus said in Mark 12:30-31, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength. This is the first commandment. And the second, like it, is this: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. There is no other commandment greater than these."

Everything pertaining to living the Christian life – which is walking in the blessing, is tied to love. When we walk in love, we release the blessing into our lives. Let's look at 1 Corinthians 13:4-8. It says, "Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails."

Walking in love is not an easy task, but it's a blessed one. It's hard to be kind when you have been hurt or not be rude to someone rude to you. It's difficult to not be provoked when you have been wronged. However, when we walk in love, we allow God to work on our behalf. He can turn situations around and make a way where there was no way.

Taking communion is about remembering the covenant of love. When we drink the cup of blessing, we think about how much He loves us. In return, we are to love Him and love others, allowing the blessing to work in our lives.

Dear Lord, thank you for your love poured out in my life. I take it, remember it, and spread it to those around me today. Amen.
