Wait On the Lord
Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord! Psalm 27:14
There is something wonderful that happens when you get quiet before God – power and strength is generated. The more time spent in His presence, the more equipped you will be for your life. The Bible tells of Jesus often getting away by Himself to pray. He knew that time with His Father was needed for His calling on earth. The most poignant prayer time recorded was Jesus’ prayer in the garden before the crucifixion. That time in prayer prepared Him with strength and courage to endure the beatings, flogging, and the cross.
I believe most people are running on empty. We push from one activity to the next, one duty to the next till we feel tired and anxious. At that point (if we can), we take time to rest – which is good and needed. We should take a whole day of rest each week. However, if we are just taking time to rest, we are missing out on gaining strength for the next task we need to do.
Rest is needed after a task, but strength is needed before. Therefore, we need to start our days and our weeks with God. Spend time in His presence to be strengthened for what lies ahead of you, then take time to rest afterward. The scripture points to time with God in the morning over and over again (Ps 5:3, Ps 130:6, Lam 3:23, 1 Chron. 23:30, Ez 12:8, Ps 119:147, Matt 6:33).
Most of us wouldn’t go into our day without our phones being charged. In fact, a lot of us are on our phones so much that we have to recharge during the day. Well, we should be doing the same with prayer. The busier your days are, the more prayer is needed to strengthen you and help you through.
Don’t neglect the most important time of your day – prayer and fellowship with your Heavenly Father. When you start your day with Him, you will find that you are more energized and ready for what lies ahead of you.
Dear Lord, I purpose to start each day waiting on You. I thank you that as I spend time with You, I have more strength and courage for the day. Amen.
