Strong In Lord
Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Ephesians 6:10
We discussed in yesterday’s devotion how waiting on the Lord renews our strength. Today I want to emphasize that our strength comes from the Lord – when we are IN or abiding in Him.
As most of us know, this verse is pulled from the famous armor of God passage. The passage says in verses 11-13, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.” We need to be strong in the Lord because our fight is not against people but in the spiritual realm.
The rest of the passage in Ephesians 6 goes through the parts of the armor – which just details what it is to be IN Him. When we have the armor on, we look and sound like Jesus. Even the devil can’t tell the difference. That’s why we can be strong. The armor of God is better than any superhero costume! Instead of an S on your chest, you have a J for Jesus!
Let’s read what the armor entails. Verse 14-17 says, “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one, and take the helmet of salvation, and the sward of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” You can’t help but be strong when wearing that kind of armor – so don’t leave home without it!
Dear Lord, thank you for providing Your armor so that I can stand strong against anything the devil throws my way. Amen.
