Renew Your Strength
But those who wait on the Lord Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31
The theme this month is being strong and courageous. Those are qualities that we can muster up ourselves, but they will leave us needing more. I don’t know about you, but my strength runs out pretty quickly!
However, Isaiah 40:31 says that our strength is renewed when we wait on the Lord. The word renew is a fabulous one. It means making like new or restoring to freshness, vigor, or perfection. Other words that embody the word renew are: regenerate, revive, rebuild, repeat, resume, replace, and replenish. I like those words! Does anyone else feel like they need some reviving?
When I need my strength renewed, I usually turn to natural things first, such as caffeine, a nap, etc. But this verse doesn’t say anything about caffeine – it talks about waiting on the Lord. Spending time with the Lord is the best way to renew your strength. In fact, prayer is like plugging into a spiritual charger and getting charged back up to do what we need to do.
Your spirit and soul will be renewed when you wait on the Lord. You will soar like the wings of eagles rising above the world and its problems. God will give you a better perspective on your situation as well. So, next time you need a little pick-me-up or maybe a big overhaul in your life, turn to Him. Wait on the Lord, and He will recharge you and lift you.
Dear Lord, I choose to wait on you and trust that you are renewing my strength today. Amen.
