A Step Of Faith

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6

Fear is a dangerous force that will stop you from stepping out in faith. The two, faith and fear, are opposites. Therefore you can’t be in faith and fear at the same time. You’re either in one or the other.

It takes strength and courage to act in faith – stepping into obedience to what God has told you to do. You might say, “well, I don’t know what God wants me to do.” No, you might not have a clear direction like the children of Israel in this verse. But we have plenty of direction for our lives in the Bible.

Let’s take the one commandment He has given us: love God and love others. It takes faith to love because often, we feel vulnerable or weak. Doing something despite our feelings as an act of obedience is faith. It doesn’t take effort to love someone who loves you, but it takes faith to love the unlovely.

Don’t let fear prevent you from following God. Even the fear of what others may think about you stops many people from pursuing what they feel God has told them. Be strong – build your faith by hearing the Word of God (Rom. 10:17). And be of good courage – remember all the times God has been faithful to you. You can rest assured that God will never leave you nor forsake you. He loves you and will help you do what He has called you to do.

Dear Lord, thank you for your promise to be with me. Help me stay strong and of good courage – full of faith to do what you have called me to do. Amen.
