Be Of One Mind

Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing. 1 Peter 3:8-9

This verse comes on the tail of addressing husbands and wives and their roles in serving one another. God created the marriage relationship and ordained each person's roles and functions. However, it all comes down to this verse, "be of one mind, having compassion for one another."

What does it take to be of one mind? It takes communication and a heart to serve each other. Communication is typically a big subject of contention in marriage. It doesn't matter what the issue is. A lack of communication is to blame. You have to be willing to talk and share about everything. Be willing to share your thoughts AND be willing to listen to your spouse without diminishing their thoughts or ideas. Create a safe place for honest communication.

Often, young married couples expect their spouse to read their minds or non-verbal communication. Ladies, your husbands need straight-talk. Don't beat around the bush with non-verbal cues or say something in hopes that they catch on to what you're really trying to say.

When you have compassion for one another, your marriage will fall into the rhythm God intended. It will be the biggest blessing for you and your spouse. You are called to love one another and serve each other – to be of like mind.

Father, thank you for my spouse. I thank You that You created this relationship to be a blessing. Help us to communicate and have compassion for one another as you designed. Amen
