How to Be Wise
He who walks with wise men will be wise, but the companion of fools will be destroyed. Proverbs 13:20
The book of Proverbs is full of profound wisdom. We ought to meditate on these scriptures and take them to heart. A practical verse like this is so true. Who you spend time with can make or break you because you will start to emulate them. Have you ever spent so much time with someone that you found yourself talking or acting like them? It’s in the nature of who we are. Therefore it is crucial that we spend time with the right people.
I have even heard success coaches talk about this principle. They say to surround yourself with those you want to be like. If there isn’t anyone like that in your life, read a biography about other successful people. Find out what they did to end up where they are. Of course, one of the most important people to read about is Jesus. Don’t just read the scriptures for face value; think about why Jesus did what He did. Notice how He handled difficult people or the pressures of life.
Finding a mentor is another great thing to do. If you want to build a skill, spend time with someone who can mentor and take you to the next level. You might have to pay for their coaching or teaching, but it is worth your investment if they help you achieve your goals. As the scripture for today says, “he who walks with a wise men will be wise.”
Dear Lord, I pray that you lead me to mentors or teachers that can help me grow in my relationship with You and help me to grow in the giftings You have placed in my life. Amen.
