Like Arrows
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one's youth. Blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. Psalm 127:3-5
Children are definitely a blessing from the Lord. From the moment of conception, the life of a child is miraculous. God’s hand is evident in every coo, giggle, and little wrinkle of the nose. Every part is perfectly knitted together to form the most beautiful and captivating little package.
With great blessings come great responsibility. I remember feeling inapt at the task of raising this perfect gift from God. Where was the manual!? What if I messed up? Let me help you out with that one. You will mess up – plenty of times. Parents mold their children and, as this verse says, help aim them in the right direction like an arrow. But to do that requires the help of the Holy Spirit.
We need to be able to hear and discern His voice 24/7, especially with raising children. As you know, each child is completely different and unique from their siblings. It takes the direction of the Holy Spirit to mold each personality. For example, a strong-willed child taught the right way will be able to withstand the sway of the world and the onslaught of attacks from the enemy from every direction.
Upon graduating from High School, we sent each of our children into the world feeling like there was so much more we needed to teach them. I don’t think we ever get to the point when we feel we have given our children all the wisdom they need. However, if you give them all the love they need and teach them how to hear God’s voice for themselves, they will hit the mark God has planned for them every time.
Dear Lord, thank you for my children. I pray that I have wisdom in raising them and pointing them in the right direction for their life. Amen.
