How to Please the Lord

Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well-pleasing to the Lord. Colossians 3:20

The word, obey, is one that our kids often heard when they were young. We trained them to acknowledge what we were telling them by obeying quickly. In our house, a late response was a wrong response. Some would think we were too strict with our children. In hindsight, there were times that was probably true, but not when it came to obeying.

Why was obeying the first time important? Because we were training our children. Teaching children to obey quickly and correctly is a life skill as well as one they need to serve God. When children learn to obey their parents and those in authority, they will be ready to obey God someday.

Obedience is pleasing to God. As children of God, we all need to be quick to obey His leading and quick to obey His Word. When we do what God has told us to do, life just goes better! He knows the best plans and route for each of us to take. We are to trust Him even when we don’t see the purpose in what He is telling us. As the old hymn says, “trust and obey for there’s no other way, to be happy in Jesus, but to trust and obey.”

Dear Father, show me where I need to trust You more. Help me be aware of my slack obedience to Your Word so that I can be pleasing to You. Amen.
