In the Fire

Each one's work will become clear, for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. 1 Corinthians 2:13

Whether you know it or not, every person on earth is building in the spirit realm, what we are building will be tested by fire. Fire does a couple of things, it burns up whatever is in its way, or it refines what's been put in it.

I've maintained this mental image for years of people getting to heaven with singed clothes that are still smoking. Everything they held dear was burned up. They are in heaven, praise God, but they have no reward there because what they were working for on earth had no heavenly value. But also in this mental image, I see people standing in heaven shining so bright you can hardly look at them. Both groups of people went through the same fire but had completely different outcomes.

Eternity is a very long time, but what we do with our short time here on earth will determine how we live in eternity. When Jesus was on the earth He did all the things humans do, weddings, funerals, fishing, had a profession, and hanging out with friends. But in the midst of everything, He never forgot that the Father's business came first.
