Being Aware of Our Words

Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. Proverbs 18:21

When I was being treated for cancer, I was very aware of my words. I slipped up a few times like nearly everyone, but I would catch myself, repent, and move on. What was it I said that was so bad? I called cancer mine. I said my cancer. Cancer had invaded some organs in my body, but I never wanted to take ownership of it. I would say I was diagnosed with cancer, or I'm going through treatment for cancer.

I will not call myself a cancer survivor; I'm a cancer beater. I'm always listening to what I say. There is a verse in James that says, "Be slow to speak and swift to hear." I weigh my words before I speak and analyze them after I speak. I do this because the word says to, and, it's easy for me to put my foot in my mouth sometimes.
