Beyond Ridiculous
"Therefore submit yourselves to every institution of man for the Lord's sake..." 1 Peter 2:13a
As long as there have been governing bodies, there have been good laws and bad laws. I honestly don't know why there are so many laws to follow. Some laws don't make sense to me, to be honest. Here in South Dakota, you will be fined for not wearing a seatbelt in a car, but you can ride a motorcycle without a helmet. That's a head-scratcher. I could find many more examples, but that's not the point here.
According to this verse, we follow rules because it's pleasing to God and brings Him honor. There are rules that, quite honestly, don't make sense to anyone. When the children of Israel came out of Egypt, God laid out 12 laws to follow. These were expanded by Moses to set them apart from the other nations and keep everyone healthy.
By the time Jesus was on the earth, these "laws" were beyond ridiculous. If you scuffed the ground with a sandal, that was considered plowing, and work on the sabbath wasn't allowed. As long as men are involved, there will always be laws that don't make any sense to normal people. Don't complain about them! Bring glory to God through them!
