To Him We Are Chosen

"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people..." 1 Peter 2:9a

To God, each of us is holy, chosen, royal, and special. I would be safe in saying that we definitely don't see ourselves that way most of the time. The thing is, God sees each of us that way all the time. To Him, we are chosen, holy, royal, and special.

Let me tell you about Sam. Sam worked on my sawmill crew years ago. He was the only other Christian on the crew. One version of the Bible says we are peculiar instead of special. Sam definitely fit that. He was kind of strange by any definition, but, boy, did he ever live God! The first time I met Sam, he shared with me that his number one goal was to share Jesus with each person on the crew. He got the position of resaw operator, but he wasn't very good at it. I was standing next to him, working with him one day. We were standing within inches of each other when a board fell on top of the saw and came our direction. I wasn't touched, but Sam was killed. It was a weird accident that should've never happened. At his funeral service, every crew member was there and heard the salvation message clearly and simply. Sam accomplished in his death what seemed impossible in life. I still think of him often.

God honored Sam and the heart he had for the list. Sam lived a simple life, but he was chosen; he was royal, holy, and special. It was my honor to know him!
