A Ridged Line Drawn

"If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless." James 1:25

At first glance, you may think this verse is talking about swearing and things like that, but it really isn't. It's interesting to me that the same people that draw a rigid line where swearing is concerned don't watch what they say in their everyday speech.

I don't know about other people, but I don't want a useless religion. I want my words to have meaning and effect change in my life. This happens when I speak in line with the word of God instead of speaking against it. Huh, I have never said it that way before, but it makes sense! You don't have to only speak what the Bible says using its words; speak your own words in line with the Bible.

When I was diagnosed with cancer three years ago, I went straight to my Bible. I made a list of scriptures that applied to whatever I was going through at the time. One thing I never did was say "my cancer ". I never took possession of it. I would say I was diagnosed with cancer, or I'm being treated for cancer. Taking possession of God's word and keeping hold of your ailment isn't going to work.
