On My Terms
We have a lot to do with living a long life. Obviously, it's important to live a healthy lifestyle and not abuse our bodies. Those are things we all know to do, even if we don't do them. On the spiritual side of things, this is a verse to attach our faith to. Most people don't do this. The tendency is to leave this up to time and chance.
A common saying is, "It's appointed once to die." People think they are quoting scripture, but they aren't. The words are being quoted, but not the meaning behind it. Most people, including Christians, believe that each of us has a set day to die, but that's not true. The truth is we will leave this earth, but there isn't a certain day that will happen.
As I have studied the scriptures, I have become convinced we have a lot to say about this. My dad was an example of this; he passed away at the age of 93. He was perfectly healthy but made the decision he wanted to be in heaven. When the time came, a nurse held his hand while he just closed his eyes. He was gone in 15 minutes.
After going through cancer, Psalm 91:16 has become my key verse. When I go, it will be on my terms.
