Such as You Have

I find it interesting that the church at Philippi was the only church that didn't require correction from Paul. It is also the only church that practiced the principles of giving and receiving. I can't help but come to the understanding that a mature church is a giving church.

If you take the time to read this letter, you realize that they gave when times were good, and they gave when times were a challenge. It became their identity. Not having something to give trips up most people. They didn't give only money, but also "such as I have.”

I remember hearing a minister that was believing God for his very existence. He was just starting out in ministry with a family to take care of. He was in a meeting one time and wanted to give something, and he didn't have any money. He had a pencil. What good is a pencil? He took that pencil, prayed over it sowing it in faith, and put it in an envelope. He put that envelope in the offering and stepped out of the service. He saw a $10.00 dollar bill blowing in the wind and pounced on it. He found his envelope and traded the 10.00 for the pencil, and God met the needs for his family.

God will use "such as you have" when you have a right heart. The Philippians gave time and again whether they had money or not. It was just who they were.
