Tithing Positions

This verse is mirrored in John 8:36, "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." Man gives laws to make other men subject to them. God put rules in place to bring blessing and freedom. This is very clear in the area of tithing, for instance.

Malachi 3:10 is the prescription for tithing. Many people have the idea that tithing is something they want to do, but they need to be in a better financial position to start. Call that position A.

There are churches that require that people tithe. One church I knew of actually sent monthly bills out. Call that position B.

God uses the tithe to give Him access to work in your finances to pour blessings on you. Position C.

In case you are wondering, position C is where freedom is found. I make tithing an act of worship. I don't place it in the offering without first praying over it, according to Malachi 3:10. I don't give because someone has told me to, and I don't give out of guilt but out of love.

I can guarantee this: churches with position A people are struggling. Position B churches never have enough money. Churches that have position C people are able to spread the gospel without worrying one bit about finances. There is great freedom in doing things God's way.
