“Just” Guidelines?
This is a small part of a discourse about doing what God wants and not what man wants. Man has always tried to 'one up' God. Case in point. God made 10 laws. By the time man was done amending those 10, they had grown to over 200 laws.
People do the same thing today. Each church or denomination has its own rules or guidelines to follow. If we aren't careful, we can go from worshiping God according to the Bible to worshiping according to the guidelines of a particular denomination.
There is nothing wrong with guidelines if they line up with God's word. However, there is only one way to salvation, and that is Jesus. We all do things we don't necessarily agree with just to fit in. The wise thing to do is seek God on these matters.
In the days of the first-century church, the common belief was that you had to be circumcised to be a Christian. Paul was saying here that was a wrong teaching! God is more interested in our hearts than anything else.
If you go to a church that does things a particular way, I am not telling you to change; however, always make sure to seek God with all your heart. We sometimes need to ask the question, "Why do I do what I do?"
