Deceiving Ourselves
But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. James 1:22
I admit it, I deceived myself the other day. I was sitting in my pickup having lunch and looked over to the airport (across the street) and saw some kind of animal hung up on the fence. It appeared to be impaled on one of the barbs. I immediately felt the need to help along with the feeling of not wanting to get involved. I finally decided I would go check out the situation and get someone at the airport to deal with it. I drove over and discovered that the animal was actually a plastic bag.
Deception is believing something that isn't true and I think I would be safe in saying we've all been there. According to this verse, if you believe what the word says but do nothing with it, you deceive yourself. The word of God is something to live by, not just read about. God's plan has always been for us to live our lives according to His way. If you read the word but don't let it change you, you have deceived yourself into thinking everything is good in your life and you don't need to change.
