Putting Your Faith in your Faith
So Jesus answered and said to them, "Have faith in God." Mark 11:22
Jesus was successful in the realm of faith because He never took His heart off of Father God. He was connected to God every moment of every day. I remember hearing a person at church say once that they had faith not to get sick. That certainly is a noble pursuit. I also remember saying to myself that they were going to get sick, and sure enough, they did. How did I know that? I picked up on the fact that they had success on top of success using faith against sickness. Unfortunately, they started putting their faith in their faith. That just doesn't work. I know that because I found myself in that position.
It's fairly easy for me to memorize things. I've always memorized the music I play. I memorized scripture verses and would quote them if I felt the need. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (Romans 10:17) What is more filling, a pizza or the memory of a pizza? It's very worthwhile to memorize the word, but I no longer rely on memory when it comes to faith. I always go back to the word and Holy Spirit, and I have a conversation about it. I move forward only when I'm convinced of the direction God wants me to take. "Have faith in God" still applies today!
