Powerful Words
In response Jesus said to it, 'Let no one eat fruit from you ever again.' Mark 11:14a
This is from the story of the fig tree. We have been talking about words the last couple of days and the power contained in them. In this story, Jesus sees a fig tree and goes to it, hoping to eat some figs. The tree doesn't have any figs to give. This verse says that Jesus responded to it, so there was some communication going on. Did the tree talk? The Bible doesn't say anything about that, so neither do I. Jesus responded to the fact that there were no figs by saying, "Let no one eat fruit from you ever again." It's important to note that Jesus never told the tree to die. The tree came to that conclusion on its own, given the limitations placed on it.
The words that we speak have the same effect today. We may not kill a bunch of trees with our words, but we can sure wound someone with them. The words we speak have the power to build someone up or tear them down. Our words have the power to heal or destroy. The words that we speak about ourselves will affect our outcomes on a daily basis. This is why I start each day reminding myself who I am in Christ. My desire is to see myself the way God sees me. I do that by speaking His words over me. Join in on this starting today!
