I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Psalm 91:2
I love this description of God. He is my refuge – my place of shelter and protection from danger. I lived in Oklahoma for a while, where we had tornado season each year. We had a large storm shelter in our house just in case we would ever be in the path of a tornado. Fortunately, we never needed to use that shelter, but it was there just in case. I do not doubt that the shelter would have kept us safe from any storm that would have come our way.
God is like that storm shelter, but even better! We can actually live in that place of refuge, knowing that He will protect us from any “storm” that comes. Being a Christian doesn’t make us immune to the storms of life, but we can get through them without harm.
Jesus told the parable about the wise man who built his house on the rock vs. the foolish man that built his house on the sand. The rain came, and the wind blew, but the house on the rock stood firm. We have a choice where we build our lives. Choose to build your house on the rock and make the Lord your refuge.
Dear Lord, help me to my you my refuge and fortress each day. Amen.
