But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
What a magnificent and precious promise this verse is. If you read the rest of this chapter, it talks about all of the things we tend to worry about daily. However, when we seek God first, He takes care of everything else.
When you trust someone, you want to seek their advice on everything. When my children left the nest for college, I received many calls about the how-to’s of “adulting.” I finally told one of my children that there is such a thing as Google and the internet to look some of these things up. But it was much easier to call mom first. Why? They trusted me and had spent time with me.
We need to build this kind of trust with our heavenly Father – that no matter what situation comes up, big or small, we know that He has an answer and solution for us.
This is why I have titled our guided devotion, Seek Him. God should be the first thing on your mind in the morning. There is an old song called, Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus (I have shared it below). The lyrics say, “Turn your eyes upon Jesus, look full in His wonderful face. And the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of His glory and grace.” It is so true. When you keep your eyes on Jesus, the little things that you worry about seem to get very small. And you can trust that you will find Him when you seek Him with all your heart.
Dear Lord, help me to learn to seek you first in all that I do. Amen
