Whenever I am afraid, I will trust You. Psalm 56:3
I think we sometimes feel that we shouldn’t ever be afraid because we are Christians. When we are scared, we feel condemned, as if we failed because of fear. However, this verse helps to give us a different perspective. It says, “whenever I am afraid..”
You better believe that the devil will try his best to get you to latch on to any fear. Yes, some people have phobias in things or situations, but fear can surface in little ways. Maybe it’s a worry or concern about something. Either way, fear usually appears when we lack understanding or don’t know what will happen in a particular situation. Fear is the opposite of faith. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Heb. 11:1), and fear is the substance of things worried about.
Fear is going to come, but what we do with that fear is important. This verse tells us exactly what to do – trust in God. I love what 1 Peter 5:7 says in the amplified version, “Casting the whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you watchfully.” That sounds like someone you can trust!
Father God, help me cast my fear on you when I feel afraid. Help me to put my complete trust in you. Amen.
