Dare to Give

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, That there may be food in My house, And try Me now in this,” Says the Lord of hosts, “If I will not open for you the windows of heaven And pour out for you such blessing That there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10

This is one of my favorite verses regarding tithes and offerings because God is imploring us to test Him on it. I see it as almost a dare. Do you dare to believe God with your tithe? If you haven’t tried and experienced God’s faithfulness, it’s a difficult thing to do.

Are you a “daredevil” or know someone who is? My younger brother was always up for a daring challenge. When he was around 4th grade, he wanted to experience bungee jumping. (You probably can guess where this is going). So, he found a few bungee cords in the garage – yes, the kind used to secure objects and fastened one side to our balcony railing and the other around his ankles. Don’t worry, he piled some laundry on the floor below – just in case! He plunged himself off the 2nd story balcony with complete confidence in his make-shift bungee! I’m sure his angels were working overtime as the bungee slowed him down enough to not cause injury. However, we did find him half lying on the floor with his legs still suspended in the air.

My brother wasn’t too savvy about testing the ability of the little bungee cords. Still, we can be courageous and bold about testing God regarding tithing. God is telling us through this verse that tithing is the key to tapping into His provision and blessing in our lives. It is how we access our heavenly accounts while at the same time giving God access to our physical accounts.

My husband and I have proved this verse and God time and time again. We have tested Him by giving our tithe first, even when we had more month than money. To this day, we marvel at the miracle that would take place in our checkbook every month as we always had enough for what we needed.

Are you daring enough to test God with your tithe – the first 10% of your income? When you take God at His Word and honor Him with the first of what He has given you, He will multiply it back into your life and “pour out such blessing that there won’t be room enough to receive it.”

Dear Lord, Your Word says that when I honor you with the first of what you have provided me, You will open the windows of blessing in my life. Thank you for being a good and gracious God. Amen.
