Worthy To Be Praised

But I will sing of Your power; yes, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; For You have been my defense and refuge in the day of trouble. Psalm 59:16

God loves to hear His children sing – you included. I don’t care if you think you’re the worst singer and can’t carry a tune in a bucket; God still wants to hear you sing.

When I was a child, a man in our church loved praising the Lord. We were a church that didn’t do much hand raising in worship, but that didn’t stop him! I remember seeing the joy on his face and the pure worship he gave to God. I also remember that he hit every note beside the correct ones! I’m not sure if he knew he couldn’t carry a tune (I guess he did), but that didn’t hinder him.

I was raised in a musical family and have always had a good musical ear. I believe my voice is a gift from God, and I have used it my whole life to worship Him. I mention that to say even though that man couldn’t carry a tune, his worship was the most beautiful thing to observe. He wasn’t trying to impress anyone and certainly didn’t care what others thought. He worshipped God with his whole heart, and it was beautiful.

I know it was beautiful to God too. God looks at the heart of a person just as Jesus did when he watched people giving in the temple. Jesus noticed that some rich people made a scene as they gave from their excess. However, Jesus was most impressed with a woman who gave the least amount, but she was in faith as she gave all she had.

Worshipping God with our voices is the same thing. Don’t be ashamed if you think you can’t sing, but don’t be prideful if you have the voice of an angel. Jesus says in John 4:23-24, “But the hour is coming, and now is when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Will you worship the Father in spirit and truth? Will you boldly sing of His mercy and power in your life? I want to challenge you to worship and sing from your heart, whether your voice is beautiful, terrible, or somewhere in between. God is seeking true worshippers – will he find one in you?

Dear Lord, I worship you today with all of my heart. You are worthy to be praised. Amen.
